Introduction by Professor Derek Mowbray

It's brilliant being an associate of the energetic and enthusiastic MAS team. They know what they're doing and their skills are so relevant for every organisation. Being an associate means to me, the development of my consultancy skills - the privileged position of being an advisor on serious issues affecting people's lives.

I find this requires sensitivity as much as technical skills and understanding of psychology and the client organisation combined with a depth of confidence that enables the consultant to offer advice even when that advice may run counter to the client'e expectations. Treating clients as knowledgeable and willing to learn is an approach that enables the consultant to adopt the stance of facilitator, maybe even, coach.
